On May 2nd, long-time NESN broadcaster Jack Edwards bid farewell after his last Boston Bruins game. A handful of reported candidates that the team was considering were in the mix, “NESN has named Judd Sirott as its new Bruins play-by-play announcer on TV broadcasts. He’ll join Andy Brickley, who will remain on the broadcast team.”

The statement from NESN reads:

“We are excited to welcome Judd to NESN,” NESN CEO and president Sean McGrail said. “Judd’s passion for the Bruins and his extensive experience in broadcasting make him a perfect fit for our team. Only a handful of people have held this position throughout Bruins history, and we’re extremely excited for Judd’s debut on NESN this fall. Judd is an excellent broadcaster with a deep knowledge of our organization, the fanbase and the market,” CEO and alternate governor of the Bruins Charlie Jacobs said. “We conducted a nationwide search for the position with our partners at NESN, understanding how important it was to find the right person to be the voice of the Boston Bruins. We are confident Judd and Brick will make an excellent on-air tandem for our fans for years to come."

The Bruins were thrilled to find out the promotion for Sirott, who was honored twice (2018 & 2023) for “best Sports Play-By-Play” by the Massachusetts Broadcasters Association. Sirott was the voice on the radio for the Bruins on 98.5 The Sports Hub for the past seven seasons, which is the official radio station of the franchise.

After the announcement, Sirott issued a statement on his own, excited for the new venture.

“This job is unrivaled around the National Hockey League: an Original Six team, in a spectacular hockey market, in one of the premier cities in the country,” Sirott said. “It’s my honor to be NESN’s new play-by-play announcer for the Boston Bruins. It will be a privilege to work with Andy Brickley and the NESN production crew, and I’m grateful to the Boston Bruins organization, NESN and 98.5 The Sports Hub and many others, for this opportunity.”

Jack Edwards had been the Bruins’ go-to guy for calling games for many decades, but had his retirement from professional broadcasting at 67 years old during the 2023-24 campaign. Edwards can now enjoy retirement and focus on his recovery as he was previously been tested for different ailments that could explained the slurring he was a victim of in recent years.
