Bruins’ fans have turned on Jeremy Swayman!

This was made clear in last night’s game.

I personally can’t blame goalie Jeremy Swayman if he’s feeling some resentment at the Boston Bruins. Especially at the team’s front office after president Cam Neely insinuated that the club had offered the netminder a $64 million contract, which was quickly denied by Swayman’s camp. His agent called Neely a liar and mentioned the words “where we go from here”, hinting at a longer dispute and even possibly a trade request.

However on Thursday night, as many Bruins fans showed up in Quebec City to encourage their team in an exhibition game against the Los Angeles Kings, some showed up with some frustration towards Swayman and one even made a sign that read “Take 64 or go”.

There were a lot of Bruins’ fan at the Centre Videotron, especially since fans in Quebec City prefer to root for Boston over the closer Montreal Canadiens, and you know how everyone has an opinion.

The 64 refers to Neely’s statement that the Bruins’ offer was that generous though insider Frank Seravalli recently stated that the Bruins’ actual offer was slightly less than what Neely hinted at, reporting instead a deal closer to $62.4 million, or an average annual value of $7.8 million over eight seasons.

“I don’t think that they put a $64 million offer on the table. In fact, my understanding is that the Bruins have offered eight years x $7.8 million, which is $62.4 million. So maybe Cam Neely had a little fun with numbers,” said Seravalli.

While this is the reaction from a few fans coming to a former NHL market to express their anger, this does not mean that all Bruins’ fans feel this way. Even in the comments from the picture of the sign, some claim that Swayman would be right to take the comments personal and would be worth more as Boston’s starting goalie.

Swayman and the Bruins have been deadlocked in a highly publicized contract dispute and both sides have until Dec. 1 to come to an agreement or else Swayman will remain inactive for the remainder of the 2024-25 season.
