Yesterday, the Bruins overcame the Buffalo Sabres on home ice by a score of 3-2. they earned a 7th point out of a possibility of 8 over their last 4 games. Boston will look to build their momentum into a streak tomorrow evening against the Wild at TD Garden.
They may get a boost in order to get another win tomorrow against Minnesota. We learned today from Bruce Cassidy that Torey Krug will probably be back in the lineup for the Bruins' next game. "He's got to check in with the medical staff", explained the Bruins' head-coach before adding "I'll put him in at probable, a strong probable."
Krug was injured in a match against the Philadelphia Flyers on November 10th and missed the Bruins' next five games. After 3 consecutive 50-plus point seasons, the Michigan-native was on pace to replicate the feat with 2 goals and 13 points in 17 games played so far this season. His return is welcome news as Boston's injury reserve is still crowded by the likes of David Backes, John Moore, Kevin Miller, Brett Ritchie, Zach Senyshyn and Karson Kuhlman.
Krug is satisfied with his recovery's progression. "We have a great strength and conditioning program here where we're able to keep our conditioning up although there's nothing like actually playing in a game, try to be as close to it as possible.", said the d-man who believes that he must make sure that his timing is up to par upon his return.
The blueliner will most likely be back on the second defensive pair that was composed of he and Brandon Carlo before his injury. Matt Grzelcyk who had filled in admirably for Krug will probably be paired up with Connor Clifton on the Bruins' 3rd pair. Grezlcyk has a fan in Krug who said he was impressed with his work and his puck moving abilities. "He's a guy that I think is undervalued on this team, maybe from an outsider's perspective. But when he's in our lineup, he changes the complexion of the back end, the way he skates, moves the puck." Grezlcyk has 2 goals and 7 points so far this season.
Having a player like Grezlcyk as the 5th defenseman isn't a bad situation to be in at all. Krug's return will most definitely solidify the Bruins' back end in more than one way.
