Brendan Lemieux gets new contract after beat down of Brayden Pachal.
Brendan Lemieux has earned himself another NHL contract after making short work of his opponent this weekend.
It would appear as though Brendan Lemieux's physical style has earned him at least one more year in the National Hockey League.
Over the weekend, during a clash between the Carolina Hurricanes and Calgary Flames, Lemieux would drop the gloves with Flames defenseman Brayden Pachal after the two exchanged hits early in the second period. It wasn't much of a fight with Lemieux quickly beating down his opponent, with Pachal seemingly never really getting set and offering effectively no offense during the short exchange.
It would appear as though that display of physical prowess was enough to impress the Hurricanes, who on Monday announced that they were inking Lemieux to a new contract extension.
Of course it would be pushing things too far to suggest that Lemieux got a new contract purely off the back of a single fight, but even Carolina Hurricanes general manager Don Waddell's comments about the signing appear to indicate that Lemieux's domination over the weekend may have played a role in this extension.
"Brendan has brought an element of toughness to our lineup," admitted Waddell. "He understands his role with our club, and we’re glad to keep him in Raleigh for another season."
