Breaking: Carey Price makes a shocking admission on Sunday.

Details inside.

This is not what fans of the Montreal Canadiens were hoping to hear.

On Sunday evening, for the first time in months, Montreal Canadiens star goaltender Carey Price spoke to the media after a long period of rehabilitation where he has largely avoided being in the public eye. During that press conference Price made it clear that it remains his goal to one day play for the Montreal Canadiens again, but there was also a stunning admission that there is a world where that could not happen.

When Price was asked about the possibility that he could never play again, he said the following:

"You never know. There's always a possibility. There's a lot going on over the next couple of weeks that will determine the rest of my season," said Price on Sunday.

During the press conference it was confirmed that Price suffered a pair of major setbacks in his recovery from his knee injury, setbacks that have reportedly left both Price and the Canadiens in the dark with what will come next. It sounds like both Price and the team are waiting to see how the next few weeks, and perhaps even months, of his recovery will play out before making a more concrete determination on his future.

Price now has to start over from scratch effectively, and he was open about the fact that this has been an incredibly frustrating process for him. In spite of that he also made it clear that he is in a good place right now.

"I'm doing well. I know it's been a frustrating time for everyone, and it's been one for me as well. It's been a long year," said Price.

"It's why I'm a little bit anxious about the next couple of weeks. It will be interesting to see how my knee responds, I'm hoping for the best I obviously want this to go well and if i have another set back I'm just gonna start over again," added the Habs goalie.

In spite of all this Price said it remains his goal to be back on the ice this season, something that did not sound realistic given the tone of this press conference.

"It's definitely an objective for me this season," said Price of trying to return this season.

I'll be blunt here, I don't think the Carey Price would be making these kind of comments if he felt confident about his return to the Canadiens.
