Brad Marchand tears into the NHL's officiating on Sunday.

Marchand is tired of the double standard.

The National Hockey League's officiating is always a controversial topic and one that is widely discussed each and every season. Fans, pundits, players and even coaches often find themselves disagreeing with officials at the highest level of the sport, officials that are very rarely held accountable for their mistakes.

That can cause frustration to build up rather quickly and seemingly one of the worst offenders when it comes to the officiating controversy over the years has been the NHL's department of player safety (DOPS). The DOPS has, on many an occasion, handed out seemingly inconsistent suspensions and on Sunday they received a special callout courtesy of Brad Marchand.

Marchand, who wasn't even playing on Sunday, took to social media to offer a comment on an incident involving goaltender Phoenix Copley. During the incident in question, Copley received a 5 minute major for punching with his blocker, a relatively light penalty all things considered.

Marchand though it would seem took exception to the fact that Copley didn't receive a harsher sentence for using a weapon in combat, arguing that he had received far harsher penalties for doing even less. Marchand argued that Copley was able to get away with murder when compared to him, something he clearly feels is fundamentally unfair.

While it's great to see personalities in the NHL being outspoken, Marchand should be careful he doesn't earn himself a fine on his day off.
