Brad Marchand goes down after blatant low blow.

A tough sequence for Bruins captain Brad Marchand who gets dropped by a blatant low blow before getting struck by a puck.

Man this was a tough sequence for Boston Bruins captain Brad Marchand who could be seen clearly hurting on the bench afterwards.

On Friday night, Marchand and the Bruins were taking on the Columbus Blue Jackets in the first of two back to back games between these two teams and unfortunately things did not go the Bruins way in the first matchup. Not only did the Bruins give this one away to the Blue Jackets after a pretty terrible second period, but things would somehow get worse for the Bruins captian in the third period when veteran National Hockey League defenseman Jack Johnson took some liberties.

There was a little over 8 minutes left to go in the game when Johnson would deliver a rather blatant low blow to Marchand, chopping Marchand right in the nether region with his stick and dropping the Bruins captain to all fours on the ice. No one can blame Marchand for going down to a blow like this and unfortunately for Marchand things would continue to get even worse from there.

While his captain was down on the ice suffering in pain from the low blow he had just received, Bruins defenseman Mason Lohrei decided to offer him some assistance in the form of a puck to the rear. Lohrei would fire off a shot towards the net as Marchand was down on the ice and caught Marchand right in his butt, a shot that Marchand seemed to feel every bit of in spite of the fact that he was already dealing with a good bit of pain on the other end.

Something tells me Lohrei probably heard about this one following the conclusion of the game.

You can see the replay of the incident, as well as Marchand still laboring on the bench, in the short clip below:
