Brad Marchand calls out NHL insider over 'false' contract report.
The captain of the Boston Bruins shut down a report regarding his contract negotiations.
The captain of the Boston Bruins has come to out to completely shut down a report over the weekend suggesting he was on the verge of signing a new deal with his team.
On Saturday, National Hockey League insider Elliotte Friedman, who in my estimation is the very best in the business, reported that Marchand and the Bruins were close to a new deal. Additionally, Friedman shared some details regarding what Marchand's new deal would look like when he suggested that a contract in the range of 3 years was likely to get done.
"The word is that the Bruins and Marchand are getting closer on an extension expected to be 3 years," said Friedman on Hockey Night in Canada. "We will see what happens in the next little bit, but the word is they are getting closer."
Friedman is very rarely, if ever, wrong about these kinds of reports but when the news got back to Marchand it was immediately shut down. Marchand informed reporters, without any doubt, that the report from Friedman was simply inaccurate.
"That report from Elliotte is false," said Marchand while speaking to reporters.
Marchand would double down on the sentiment by stating that Friedman was just flat out wrong.
"Elliotte is just wrong there," said Marchand affirming his position on the matter.
As I mentioned it is extremely rare to see Friedman make a mistake in these types of situations and it will be very interesting to hear how the well respected NHL insider responds to these comments from Marchand.
Marchand also made an interesting comment while responding to the report, one that may hint at the fact that he is not interested in such a short-term type of deal.
"If I would sign a 3 year extension it would be signed," said Marchand.
You can hear Marchand's comments on the matter in his own words in the short clip linked below.
This is definitely a situation worth monitoring moving forward, stay tuned for all the latest on this one.
