Longtime Bruins forward Oskar Steen appears to be done in the National Hockey League.

Oskar Steen is a Boston Bruin no more.

The former 6th round pick (165th overall) of the Bruins at the 2016 National Hockey League Entry Draft is officially leaving the NHL after several seasons in which he bounced between the NHL Bruins and their American Hockey League affiliate, the Providence Bruins.

The news was revealed on Saturday morning when Steen's former team from the Swedish Hockey League announced that they had signed the 26 year old forward to a multi-year contract. The financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed, but Steen is signing on for a 5 year term.

This effectively puts an end to Steen's career in the National Hockey League after just 60 games, 60 games in which he scored 4 goals and 4 assists for a total of 8 points. I believe it is that relative lack of offensive production that prevented Steen from taking the next step at the NHL level.

Steen's biggest chunk of NHL experience came this season in which he appeared in 34 games for the Bruins, scoring just 1 goal and adding no assists for a total of 1 point on the season. I suspect that, had there been interest in Steen as a free agent this summer, Steen would have remained in the NHL had there been any offers from competing teams.
