The presumptive No. 1 pick in the 2023 NHL Draft has been keeping busy ever since it was announced that the Chicago Blackhawks won the lottery on May 8th. He was n Las Vegas as the NHL is hosting him and fellow top draft prospects Adam Fantilli, Leo Carlsson, and Will Smith and got a preview of the media circus that awaits him on June 28th for the first round of the Draft.
However, first is the scouting combine and on Wednesday it was an an important as he was expected to interview with the Blackhawks.
When he was in Vegas, the soon-to-be first-overall pick 2023 NHL Draft selection was asked about the almost guaranteed chance that he’ll be a member of the Blackhawks later this month. Bedard dashed the chatter of him pulling an Eric Lindros and responded positively.
“If they decide to take me, that would be unreal, with the history and the other sports and the culture there and their love of sports,” he said. “I’d be incredibly honored.”
While the combine is usually a big day for prospects, I have a feeling the Blackhawks are more nervous about this interview. Bedard was named to the Canadian Hockey League’s First-All Star team after a season with the Regina Pats in the WHL that saw him record 143 points in just 57 games.
The Hawks have truly won the lottery.
