Big announcement from Zdeno Chara for fans in Boston.
The longtime captain of the Boston Bruins will be returning to Boston for a very special cause.
The city of Boston hasn't lost any of their love for longtime Boston Bruins captain Zdeno Chara, and the big man will be looking to capitalize on that next month when he will be championing a very noble cause.
On Sunday, Chara announced via his Instagram that he intends to participate in his first ever marathon of any kind, and it sounds like he hasn't lost any of his love for the City of Boston either given that he has chosen this April's Boston Marathon as his first.
Chara has always been an athlete that likes to challenge himself, but there's more than just a personal challenge in this for the kind-hearted giant. Chara announced that he will be running to support to causes near and dear to his heart, The Thomas E. Smith Foundation & The Hoyt Foundation.
From Chara:
EXCITING NEWS! I’m so happy to announce that I am running my very first marathon, and what better first marathon than the Boston Marathon on April 17th! In addition, I’m running to support The Thomas E. Smith Foundation & The Hoyt Foundation. Dick and Rick Hoyt made an incredible impact on millions of people worldwide and personally helped to motivate us to our 2011 Stanley Cup Championship. The Hoyt Foundation has an amazing legacy with the B.A.A. and this iconic marathon. Tom Smith is one of the most resilient and inspiring stories. With his passion and dedication, his foundation continuously helps those affected by and living with paralysis. If you’d like to make a contribution to The Hoyt Foundation & The Thomas E. Smith Foundation, please click the donation link in my bio. Hope to see you along the course, come cheer us on!
As such a beloved figure in the city of Boston I have no doubt that Chara will receive tremendous support from many of his longtime fans, and it's all for a good cause.
