Berube shakes up top 6 with core forward out of action.
The Maple Leafs head coach was forced to make significant changes to his lineup on Saturday.
Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube has been forced to go with a different look to his lineup on Saturday, although these changes are a result of circumstance and not due to Berube's own desires.
On Saturday, the Maple Leafs officially confirmed that Tavares would be absent from the team's morning skate due to the fact that he is currently suffering from an illness. No details regarding the severity or nature of that illness have been released at this time.
Unsurprisingly this in turn would lead to changes to the Maple Leafs lineup with a fairly different looking team ahead of today's matchup against Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins. Here is how the Leafs four lines looked during today's morning skate:
Knies - Matthews - Marner
McMann - Holmberg - Nylander
Pacioretty - Domi - Robertson
Lorentz - Kampf - Reaves
And the defensive pairings:
Rielly - Tanev
Ekman-Larsson - McCabe
Benoit - Timmins
Liljegren - Myers
The absence of Tavares also resulted in a change to the Maple Leafs top power play unit, with veteran National Hockey League forward Max Pacioretty, who already has a goal through the first two games of the season, slotting into that spot with Tavares absent from the team's morning skate.
Goaltender Anthony Stolarz appears to be headed for another start this evening with goaltender Joseph Woll still out of action due to a lower body injury.
