Auston Matthews shares first details about his injury.
Toronto Maple Leafs star forward Auston Matthews finally revealed one key detail about his injury.
Toronto Maple Leafs star forward Auston Matthews has refused to share any details regarding the injury and/or ailment he suffered during the opening round of the Stanley Cup playoffs against the Boston Bruins, but on Monday Matthews finally opened up a little and let one detail out to the general public.
Matthews, like all of the other Maple Leafs, was made available on Monday for the team's end of season media availability and it was during that time that Matthews was pressed about the injury that knocked him out of both Game 5 and Game 6 in the Maple Leafs' first round series against the Boston Bruins.
Although Matthews was still very private about his injury, he was willing to admit that it was indeed an injury and that it had been caused by a hit he received during the course of Game 4.
"Game 4 I took a weird hit and couldn't go any longer and that's as detailed as I'm going to go into it," admitted Matthews on Monday.
As it turns out the injury was separate from the very real illness that had a big impact on Matthews early in this series.
"I got really really sick after Game 2," admitted Matthews.
It sounds like the illness was hampering Matthews in both Game 3 and Game 4, and you have to wonder if it may have been a contributing factor in him getting injured.
You can hear Matthews in his own words in the short clip below.
