Any thought of Arizona native and NHL superstar Auston Matthews joining the Arizona Coyotes are officially on hold - at least for the time being.
Matthews was re-signed by the Maple Leafs this past summer to a four-year contract extension, meaning that he's remaining with Toronto for the foreseeable future. But by now, most hockey fans are well aware that it was his infatuation with the then-named Phoenix Coyotes as a youngster that developed his love of the game.
But even he's not above a subtle jab at the team that he grew up rooting for.
"Coyotes were never good enough to have a rival," he said.
What are the chances that Matthews does decide to return home by the time his next contract is through, especially if the Coyotes have been able to ice a competitive squad by then?
