Auston Matthews faces questions about his mystery injury.

Auston Matthews faced the media on Saturday night after losing to the Boston Bruins in Game 7.

Auston Matthews mysterious ailment or injury will remain just that for now, a mystery.

The Maple Leafs star forward was notably absent from the lineup as his team turned the series around in Game 5 and Game 6, and returned to Game 7 in something of a diminished role, playing further down the lineup than would be typical of a player of Matthews' stature.

As is often the case in the Stanley Cup playoffs injuries are kept as quiet as possible and that has certainly been the case with Matthews but, despite his team being eliminated from contention on Saturday night, Matthews still would not disclose the nature of the ailment that kept him out of Game 5 and Game 6.

"I'm not gonna get into that tonight," said Matthews shutting down questions immediately.

Matthews did suggest that more information may be made available in the next few days.

"I think the next couple of days I'll kind of process this and go over it but I'm just not gonna get into that tonight."

Matthews is of course well within his right to withhold whatever information about his health and well being that he chooses, but I suspect that these questions will likely be asked again in the coming days.
