Arber Xhekaj drops Pat Maroon with a flurry of punches.
Arber Xhekaj gets the better of veteran NHL enforcer Pat Maroon on Friday with a flurry of punches.
The Montreal Canadiens didn't get the all important victory on the score sheet against the Chicago Blackhawks on Friday but they did manage to pick up some smaller victories along the way.
Perhaps the biggest win of the night for the Habs was one that came courtesy of Canadiens enforcer Arber Xhekaj who continued to cement his reputation as a dangerous customer in the National Hockey League these days when he took on veteran enforcer Pat Maroon. Maroon and Xhekaj would drop the gloves pretty early on in the game's first period and unfortunately for Maroon things would not go his way at all in this one.
Hockey is a young man's game and Maroon got a pretty tough reality check in the form of Xhekaj who pummeled the more experienced Maroon into submission. The two men would tie up and it wouldn't be long before Xhekaj began to find some success with his right hand, something he would go on to use to great effect in this short exchange.
At one point Xhekaj fired off a series of piston-like right hands that all struck Maroon in a flurry, a flurry that was enough to overwhelm the experienced NHL enforcer and drop him to the ice. Maroon did take Xhekaj down with him though which quickly resulted in the on-ice officials stepping in and putting a stop to the exchange.
