Another team put in a claim for Raphael Lavoie, forces Oilers to make roster change!

Lavoie was reclaimed by Edmonton a few days after they placed him on waivers and lost him to Vegas. However, this time, things got more complicated.

Two days after losing forward Raphael Lavoie to a waiver claim by the Vegas Golden Knights on Monday, the Edmonton Oilers took him back, claiming him off waivers on Wednesday. The Golden Knights placed him back on the wire on Tuesday in an attempt to assign him to AHL Henderson, but Edmonton reclaimed him, and apparently, they weren’t the only ones who attempted to get Lavoie.

According to Jason Gregor and Puck Pedia, another team, higher than them in standings last season, put a claim in for Lavoie, and while the Oilers are the ones who won the claim, they now cannot send him down right away to the AHL without putting him back on waivers, and waiting for him to clear. Therefore, he is currently on the Oilers’ roster, meaning they only have $287K projected cap space.

Oilers insider Daniel Nugent-Bowman explains how it was either the Colorado Avalanche, Vancouver Canucks, Boston Bruins, Winnipeg Jets, Florida Panthers, Carolina Hurricanes, Dallas Stars or the New York Rangers that attempted to claim Lavoie.

Lavoie was the second-round pick in Ken Holland’s first Edmonton draft back in 2019.

On Sunday, Edmonton rolled the dice when they waived Lavoie and he ended up in Vegas. Not for long though as this is a reunion for the Oilers and the 24-year-old forward, who made his NHL debut last season.

In seven games, he posted a -2 rating with four shots on goal while averaging a paltry 7:17 per game.

The fact that Lavoie might need to go through waivers again or simply be left hanging in Edmonton as head coach Kris Knoblauch figures out his roster proves that the kid is in high demand and could turn out to be a top player in the Oilers’ future.
