Another Canuck feels like J.T. Miller and wants out of Vancouver!
There are trade rumours, locker room drama and now this. Find out more below:
The Vancouver Canucks are a team filled with drama at the moment, following the rumours dressing room feud between J.T. Miller and Elias Pettersson that have led to several monster trade rumours, on top of the uncertain contract status of Brock Boeser. When it rains, it pours and it is now believed that another player wants out of Vancouver.
According to former Florida Panthers and Columbus Blue Jackets head coach Doug MacLean, goalie Thatcher Demko doesn’t want to play in Vancouver anymore. As a guest on Real Kyper and Bourne on Friday, MacLean explained how Canucks’ star goaltender isn’t too excited to be between the pipes at this time in the season, which led to his comments about Thatcher wanting out.
“I hear that [Demko] is not that excited to get into the net right now.” MacLean said (around the 10:00 mark of the podcast. “I’m even hearing Demko doesn’t want to play [in Vancouver].”
Demko has spent his entire NHL career with the Canucks and has had a rough last 10 months from a pair of knee injuries, to a slow recovery process. He finally returned on Dec. 10 against the St. Louis Blues, making his 2024-25 season debut. He is coming off the best season of his career in 2023-24 where he was a runner-up to Winnipeg’s Connor Hellebuyck for the Vezina Trophy.
While there is time for him to rebound and prove himself as a key member of the Canucks, it may not happen if his heart isn’t into it.
Not sure where MacLean is getting the information on Demko’s potential future with the Canucks, but losing him in net would be a huge blow in Vancouver.
I guess we could find out more about this as the March 7 trade deadline nears…
