All hell breaks loose in Claude Giroux's return to Philly.

A wild first period.

Claude Giroux's return to Philadelphia may have been a terrible omen of things to come... just kidding Claude.

On Saturday afternoon the former Flyers captain returned to Philadelphia, this time representing the Ottawa Senators franchise, and although Giroux would receive a very warm welcome from the Flyers faithful, the Flyers themselves had other ideas.

It was nothing short of a wild first period as both teams got very physical with one another, with two fights breaking out in the first period alone... so far.

The first was a quick affair between Flyers veteran forward Travis Konecny and Senators defenseman Jacob Bernard-Docker, which made this a battle between a pair of former first round picks. Unfortunately for Bernard-Docker his first fight in the National Hockey League would not end well, with Konecny dispatching him with a single hard punch to the side of the head.

It wouldn't be much longer after that initial fight that we would once again see the gloves dropped, this time between Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Tony DeAngelo and Ottawa Senators forward Mark Kastelic. The motivation for this one was quite clear, with DeAngelo seemingly taking exception to a late hit that he had received from Kastelic earlier in the first period.

DeAngelo had been knocked down by the hit and seemed to be in a bit of discomfort after the fact, but the next chance he got to face off against Kastelic on the ice he made it clear that he was not to be trifled with. DeAngelo took some hard shots to the head from the bigger man for his efforts, but also landing some stiff looking shots to the body in the process as well before both men collapsed to the ice.

Here's a highlight that includes the initial hit from Kastelic as well as some slow motion highlights from the exchange between DeAngelo and Kastelic.

If this is any kind of sign of what is to come, you won't want to miss the rest of this one.
