The Washington Capitals have received a bit of a scare on Monday.

There are now multiple reports that Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin has suffered some form of minor injury and/or discomfort, with Ovechkin leaving the ice just moments after he stepped onto it today.

Ovechkin was described as wincing in pain as he left the ice, although the man who originally broke the news has stressed that it is not as bad as some have reported.

That news came from Capitals beat reporter Sammi Silber and in his most recent update he stressed a few key details. Sibler did confirm that Ovechkin winced in pain and left the ice, but went out of his way to say that any talk of "massive pain" was an exaggeration. Additionally Silber has added that there is no official update from the Washington Capitals at this time.

The concern around Ovechkin is obiously understandable as there are a great many fans invested in his chance of Wayne Greztky's record for most all-time goals in the National Hockey League. Any injury that would force Ovechkin to miss time would also hinder his chances of breaking Gretzky's record this season.

Ovechkin is also getting up there in terms of age at 38 years old and it can be harder to recover from any injury a professional athlete gets older and their body begins to wear down.
