It would appear that National Hockey League veteran Alex Chiasson has found a way to extend his professional hockey career.

On Saturday the Grand Rapids Griffins, the American Hockey League affiliate of the Detroit Red Wings, announced that they had signed Chiasson to a professional tryout offer. This appears to be a significant step down for the veteran winger who had spent the last 9 seasons as a regular in the National Hockey League, including capturing a Stanley Cup championship as a member of the Washington Capitals back in 2018.

Chiasson spent last season with the Vancouver Canucks where he appeared in 67 games, scoring 13 goals and adding 9 assists for a total of 22 points on the season.

Chiasson made an attempt at playing in the NHL this season when he signed a professional tryout offer with the Arizona Coyotes, but he would fail to secure an NHL contract after participating in training camp and would eventually be released from that PTO in October.

The 32 year old native of Montreal, Quebec appears to have kept in shape despite that setback and has now earned himself a shot at playing some professional hockey this season with the Griffins.
