A scary scene took place on Thursday night during the game between the Vegas Golden Knights and the Minnesota Wild. That’s because in the first period, Golden Knights’ defenseman Alec Martinez was struck in the face by the skate blade of the Wild’s Brandon Duhaime, which resulted in a nasty injury.
Not only you can tell that his face was lacerated by the blade, if you look closely at the video, you can also clearly see one of his teeth falling out and hitting the ice.
This is not pretty to watch. You’ve been warned.
After the game, which was won 3-2 by Vegas - let’s hope that cheered up Martinez - head coach Peter DeBoer provided an update on Martinez as he appeared stunned at the number of stitches his player had to get to close the wound.
“Ugly, ugly cut,” said Deboer. “I don’t have an exact number in the stitches, but I had heard over 50.”
We do not have a timetable for the blue liner’s return to action or if he’ll miss time at all. But we can say that Martinez is very lucky the skate blade wasn’t a bit lower where it could catch him in the neck.
Wow.
