Action on waivers today with pest Brendan Lemieux getting moved!

See what’s happening on the waiver wire on Wednesday.

The Carolina Hurricanes have placed forward Brendan Lemieux on waivers on Wednesday for the purpose of reassignment. The pesty forward missed both of the Canes’ games so far this season with an undisclosed lower-body injury. This is a sign that Lemieux is better and healthy enough to make the move.

Expectations are that if he clears waivers, then Lemieux will probably head to the minors.

Lemieux, who signed a one-year, $775,000 extension with Carolina last year, has been known to be a tough competitor that can easily get under opponents’ skins. In 2023-24, he was mostly used as the 13th forward, playing just 32 games with the Hurricanes, recording three goals and five points in that span.

On waivers on Wednesday, there is also Columbus Blue Jackets’ Dylan Gambrell. He has yet to make his regular-season debut for the Blue Jackets, with whom he signed a one-year, two-way deal in the first few deal of free agency back in July.

He is expected to clear the wire on Thursday and head to the AHL. He’ll likely spend most of the 2024-25 campaign in the minors.

The Hurricanes had waived defenseman Joakim Ryan on Tuesday and he has now clear, meaning he can now join their AHL affiliate, the Chicago Wolves.

Carolina signed Ryan this past July 14th to a one-year, two-way contract, carrying a cap hit of $775k at the NHL level and $110,000 in the AHL.

The 31-year-old blue liner has been away from the Canes since October 3rd when he was sidelined with what was reported as a “undisclosed’ injury. He is probably healthy now and ready to play for the farm team.
