12 players land on waivers, including two veteran goalies!

Another busy day on the waiver wire on Wednesday.

On Wednesday, 12 players were placed on waivers, including veteran goalies including Philadelphia Flyers’ Cal Petersen and Carolina Hurricanes’ Spencer Martin.

This is the group of players that have been placed on the wire with the hopes of being assigned to their respective farm club in time for their training camps, which get underway early this week.

SJS: Poturalski, Sabourin
PHI: Cal Petersen
PIT: Huntington, Johnstone, Hollowell
CAR: Martin
COL: Phillips, Ahcan, Rosen
NYR: Groulx
CBJ: Fix-Wolansky

Martin and Petersen stand out from the group. Both 29 years old, they were selected in the 2013 NHL draft – Martin by the Colorado Avalanche with the 63rd pick overall and Petersen heading to the Buffalo Sabres 129th overall.

But more happened when it comes to goalies and waivers:

On top of these players landed on waivers on Wednesday, there is one that was on there since yesterday that is making a move. The Boston have claimed goalie Jiri Patera off waivers from the Vancouver Canucks.

The Bruins made the move as the situation is getting uglier with restricted free agent goaltender Jeremy Swayman. It certainly got worse when the netminder’s agent flat out called Cam Neely a liar after the team president insinuated that the club had offered his client a $64 million contract.

This will be something to keep an eye on as the season nears and the Bruins are still dealing with an unsigned Swayman.

It’s expected to be busy on the wire as the week goes on seeing that the NHL’s roster cutdown day is Monday, Oct. 7. Teams that need players to clear waivers before assigning them to the minors will have to proceed at the latest on Sunday, since the rest of the league can claim those players in a 24-hour period.
