Staal crashes into his own net, scores an own goal at the same time.

This was a really bad break for Marc Staal.

The 30-year-old New York Rangers defenseman made an attempt to get back into the play during a Chicago Blackhawks rush on goal, but instead he ended up crashing hard into his own net, bring the puck along with him.

Staal was skating to catch up to Blackhawks forward Nick Schmaltz when he took a relatively mild crosscheck to the back from Chicago's Ryan Hartman. The momentum from the crosscheck however was enough to send Staal down to the ice, and right as he crashed into the net he accidentally pushed the puck into his own net, giving Chicago a critical goal.

You have to feel for the guy, not only does he get hurt on the play but he hurts his team's chances of picking up a win on the evening as well, largely through no fault of his own.

Hartman of course thought the entire sequence was hilarious and you can see a huge smile on his face as he points to Staal and explains to his teammates that it will be a good goal.
