On Wednesday, the Edmonton Oilers announced that forward Evander Kane would miss that night’s game against the Columbus Blue Jackets due to personal matter.
It was then confirmed that the personal matter is related to his bankruptcy case, as Kane is facing two bankruptcy trials in San Jose and is scheduled to appear in court for seven days over two weeks from Jan. 23 to Feb. 2.
The expectation was that Kane would be out until after the All-Star break, however, the gritty forward was back with his team on Friday’s practice ahead of Saturday’s game against the visiting Chicago Blackhawks, per Bob Stauffer.
He practiced on the second line with Leon Draisaitl and Derek Ryan
The team has yet to confirm if Kane will be in the lineup for Saturday night’s game, however, the projected lineup sure hints at his return.
It may be that he is not anymore in the bankruptcy case.
We will update on the situation as soon as the Oilers make an official statement on Kane’s potential return.
In 17 games for the Oilers this season, Kane has put up five goals and recording 13 points. He was greatly missed as his absent physicality and grit left a huge void in Edmonton.
