NHL rival club has perfect trade pitch to land Sens' Karlsson

As you read this article, we are kindly asking you to imagine yourself in Ottawa Senators general manager Pierre Dorion's office. In fact, you are Dorion. Your team is falling apart, currently sitting 12 points out of the second Wild Card spot, with a 12-16-8 record after 36 games.

It has been made clear: the Sens are almost in full blown sale mode, expect for forward Mark Stone and captain and star defenseman Erik Karlsson. But what if a team, with load of interesting young players and picks, was to present you the perfect trade offer to acquire Karlsson?

According to Brett Cyrgalis of the New York Post, the New York Islanders have the assets to pursue Karlsson and the journalist decided to present his offer. Here is the pitch to land Karlsson as written by Cyrgalis:

"I also reported that the Islanders have made rookie Mathew Barzal a non-starter in any deal, so if that remains (which it should), then how about Anthony Beauvillier and Josh Ho-Sang — and/or Ryan Pulock — plus a first-rounder and two conditional seconds? Is that a better template to start from?"

The Senators might be tempted by this pitch...However, the Isles won’t be the only club trying to land him and such a opportunity might only take place in the summer - if it does.

And it also depends on how much it takes to re-sign superstar center John Tavares, as Isles management might be hesitant to invest $11 million annually in re-signing Karlsson, who’s slated to become an unrestricted free agent in 2019.

But still, an interesting pitch, don't you think? So, as Dorion, what do you do?
