Josh Anderson pummels Rangers captain Jacob Trouba.
Josh Anderson gets the better of veteran NHL defenseman Jacob Trouba on Saturday afternoon.
At this point it's hard to imagine things getting much worse for New York Rangers captain Jacob Trouba.
Trouba is not having a good season after being the subject of a big trade rumor over the summer and on Saturday afternoon things went from bad to worse for the Rangers captain.
Trouba and the Rangers were facing off against the Montreal Canadiens and it wasn't long before Canadiens forward Josh Anderson decided that he wanted a piece of Trouba. Anderson and Trouba would quickly drop the gloves but it seemed like Anderson had Trouba's number in this exchange from the very start. Anderson pummeled Trouba with some hard shots that had the Rangers captain looking like a fish out of water, resulting in Trouba flailing and spinning around awkwardly and even catching a hard punch to the back of the head as a result.
At one point the fight was reset but Anderson would once again come charging at his opponent and again it appeared as though Anderson got the better of Trouba in the second part of the exchange. Trouba didn't seem to have much offense to offer at all the second time around and eventually fell to the ice with Anderson showing him some mercy when he stopped throwing blows in the direction of the Rangers captain.
Not a good look at all for Trouba who has seen his level of play decline precipitously and now relies heavily on his toughness to make his impact on the game. Especially not when adding the context of Trouba being on the receiving end of a ton of criticism for his performance less than 24 hours ago against the Philadelphia Flyers.
Here's a replay of the fight:
