Former 2nd overall pick puts himself on the trading block.

It sounds like a former 2nd overall pick in the NHL draft is ready for a fresh start somewhere else.

The amount of trade chatter surrounding the New York Rangers over the course of the past week has been rather intense, and unfortunately for Rangers general manager Chris Drury it appears as though there may be no signs of things slowing down on that front.

On Monday I covered a report that detailed how Drury and the Rangers were looking to make some truly seismic changes when they placed two of their top stars on the trading block. The decision to make both team captain Jacob Trouba and star forward Chris Kreider available for trades no doubt sent shockwaves through the Rangers locker room but as it turns out that was only just the beginning.

In a recent report, National Hockey League insider Darren Dreger revealed that another top Rangers forward is also on the trading block when he mentioned that Kaapo Kakko is a name that has once again surfaced in trade talks. The key difference here it sounds like, at least according to Dreger, is that Kakko may be the one pushing for a trade rather than the other way around.

"Lots of teams are swirling around Chris Drury and the Rangers beyond what's been speculated this week," began Dreger. "I'm told that Kaapo Kakko's name has resurfaced... ice time is a bit of an issue... Kakko probably wants a fresh start."

Kakko was of course drafted by the Rangers 2nd overall at the 2019 NHL Entry Draft and is currently in the midst of his 6th NHL season with the team. He has 3 goals and 9 assists for a total of 12 points over 21 games this season, boasting a plus minus rating of +13 on the campaign thus far, but he may believe he could be even better elsewhere.

It sounds like the acquisition of Kakko will come at a rather steep price however for any teams looking to pry him away from the Rangers.

"It's not like the Rangers are willing to give this guy away," said Dreger. "If you're trading out a piece like that then the return is going to have to be exactly what the New York Rangers are looking for."

In spite of that Dreger believes teams looking to upgrade at forward are interested.

"Undoubtedly there is interest there," said Dreger in conclusion.
