The Florida Panthers are doing everything in their power to protect their fans and personnel.

The team annonces Wednesday that the four-team prospect tournament scheduled to be held in Estero, Fla., has been canceled due to the passage of Hurricane Irma, the strongest Atlantic storm since 2005.

Evacuation orders have been rolled out as the Category 5 storm intensifies. Estero is about 150 miles south of Tampa on the state's west coast.

"We are here and ready to support our Florida family, Broward County and the City of Sunrise as the community prepares for Irma's possible landfall," said team owner Vincent J. Viola. "Service to the community and family are in the DNA of our organization."

"We encourage our fans, staff and members of our community to prepare wisely and stay safe throughout the duration of this storm," said Panthers President & CEO Matthew Caldwell. "Our strength as a community will guide us the through the difficult times ahead."

The tournament was scheduled for Sept. 9-12 and was to include the Tampa Bay Lightning, the Washington Capitals and the Nashville Predators.

Anyone out there, stay safe!
