The Vegas Golden Knights have signed defenseman Deryk Engelland to a one-year contract extension through the 2018-2019 season worth $1.5 million, the team announced on Monday. The 35-year old defenseman was set to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season.

Drafted 194th by the New Jersey Devils in 2000, the Edmonton, Alberta native played 510 games in the NHL with the Pittsburgh Penguins, the Calgary Flames and the Golden Knights, registering 99 points and 516 penalty minutes. He added two points in 28 playoff games. Vegas claimed him in the expansion draft from Calgary last summer. In 41 games played so far this season, Engelland has three goals and ten assists for a total of 13 points.

General manager George McPhee also extended forward Jonathan Audy-Marchessault to a six-year contract extension for a total worth of $30 million on January third. The 27-year old forward has 16 goals and 25 assists for a total of 41 points in 39 games this season. He was also set to become an unrestricted free agent this summer.

The Golden Knights are currently first in the Pacific division with a record of 29-10-3.
