Breaking: Carey Price reveals he suffered from a potentially disabling illness this season

Montreal Canadiens' Carey Price is often referred to as one of the world's best goaltenders, especially after a stellar season led to him winning the Vezina Trophy and three other awards, back in 2014-15. But his recent performances have been vastly criticized, mainly at the beginning of the season. After his 10 first games, he posted a goals against average of 3.64 and a save percentage of .883, which is much lower than his usual numbers.

Nobody was able to explain why he was struggling so much. But a breaking news report from TVA Sports' Elizabeth Rancourt revealed that the star goaltender suffered from chronic fatigue syndrome. Price specified he had to change his diet, because he simply couldn't recover from any physical effort.

We can read on the official website of Health Canada that "Chronic Fatigue Syndrom, also known as Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME), is a debilitating and potentially disabling illness that affects over half a million Canadians. CFS/ME is not yet fully understood, but it is known to affect multiple systems of the body.

It is often characterized by:

  • unexplained, persistent or recurring fatigue that interferes with normal day-to-day activities and is not relieved by rest;
  • malaise after physical/mental activity (i.e. worsening of symptoms and/or feeling unwell after mild physical/mental activity or even normal physical/mental activity);
  • pain (muscle and/or joint pain, as well as headaches);
  • sleep dysfunction (unrefreshed sleep and/or sleep quantity or rhythm issues);
  • cognitive dysfunction (problems with memory and concentration, feeling 'foggy')."

The 30-year-old netminder said that just three weeks after he made the change in his diet, he could already notice a huge difference.

In 32 games this year, Price has a record of 13-15-4, a goals against average of 2.96 and a save percentage of .908.
