Breaking: Calder Trophy favorite earns AHL demotion!
Keystone Press

According to a report from Sportsnet analyst and NHL insider Chris Johnston, the Arizona Coyotes have sent top prospect Dylan Strome to the Tucson Roadrunners of the AHL.

Strome was drafted 3rd overall behind only superstars Connor McDavid and Jack Eichel in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft. He’s managed just nine games in his NHL career so far, scoring just a single assist. To say that it’s been a rocky start to his NHL career for the 20-year-old would be an understatement. Twice now Strome has been highlighted as a Calder Trophy favorite as the NHL’s top rookie and twice he’s been demoted early in the NHL season.

In 2016-17, he was sent back to the OHL’s Erie Otters where he produced an outstanding 75 points in just 35 games. This season he’ll report to the Roadrunners where hopefully he can find his scoring touch and work his way back into the Coyotes lineup.

It might be too early to say but… draft bust?
