The more days passe by, the more Steven Stamkos and the Tampa Bay Lightning's association is likely to end.
According to Elliot Friedman from Sportsnet, James Mirtle from The Globe and Mail and Bruce Garrioch from the Ottawa Sun are all reporting that Tampa's general manager Steve Yzerman could be on the verge of asking Steven Stamkos for a list of teams where he would like to get traded, since the star forward has a non-movement clause on his contract.
Stamkos his set to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the present season. Popular beliefs are that Stamkos would like to test the free agent market and would favour signing with his childhood team, the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Rumours have recently beginning to swirl about Lightning's head coach Jon Copper and his relationship with Steven Stamkos. Apparently, the two do not see eye to eye and their relationship have been on the downside since the playoffs last year. Stamkos is a center man, but Cooper plays him on the wing.Dialogue between these two has been kept to minimum and that many teammates feel the tension and it makes them uneasy. Earlier this season, Steve Yzerman has signed Cooper to a three year extension.
Steven Stamkos will likely be asking for a contract similar to the one Jonathan Toews and Patric Kane signed in Chicago, an 8 year contract with an average cap hit of $10.5M per year.
